Measure the outside
Handles and lid knobs are usually the widest and tallest points. Measure across the handles and up to the top of the knob.
The space inside a box solar oven isn't a simple box. The glass slopes toward the sun, the oven tilts with the seasons, and handles and lids stick out. Try your own cookware below, then see what decides whether it fits in My Solar Oven.
The rear leg tilts the oven to face the sun. Leg 1 (level) is for high summer sun, leg 11 (full tilt) for low winter sun. Tap a row to see why.
Every leg setting
Handles and lid knobs are usually the widest and tallest points. Measure across the handles and up to the top of the knob.
The glass angles toward the sun, so there's more headroom at the back than the front. A pot that's a little too tall in the middle can slide toward the back.
Tilting the oven back for a low winter sun makes the slope steeper, one leg setting at a time. You gain a little room at the back and lose more at the front.
A rim along the sides limits how wide the base can be, though handles can ride above it. The front and back are open, so cookware can hang past the edge a little.
A pot is tallest at the knob in the middle, where the glass is higher, and lower at the edge of the lid. A baking dish is just as tall at its front edge, where the glass is lowest.
Try new cookware in the cold, empty oven before you cook. Sizes in the list are typical, from published specs by Pyrex, Lodge, USA Pan, Nordic Ware and Caraway, and brands vary.
